License management

To run a chargeable software product from the PLCnext Store on your PLCnext Control, you need a corresponding license on your PLCnext Control.

Before you jump to the contents of the respective topics, here is what else you should know about licenses:

  • You need one license for each PLCnext Control
  • A license can be bound directly to the PLCnext Control or to a LIC SD card.
    • SD FLASH 8GB PLCNEXT MEMORY LIC (item no. 1151112)
    • SD FLASH 32GB PLCNEXT MEMORY LIC (item no. 1151111)
  • You can activate the license on the PLCnext Control/on the LIC SD card online or offline.
  • You can move licenses back to the license pool
  • The use of licenses is not time-limited (except for trial licenses, which are valid for 10 days after activation).
  • After a reset (type 1 and type 2) the license remains on your PLCnext Control
  • In case of device defect:
    • If the license is on a LIC SD card, you can insert the LIC SD card with the license into another device.
    • If you can still connect to the device, move the license back to the license pool and use it on another device.
    • If the license is located directly on the defective device, send the device to Phoenix Contact and you will receive a replacement license.

Purchasing a license

You have the following options for purchasing a license:

  • You can purchase a license directly from the PLCnext Store. Your advantage here is that the license is ready for you within a few seconds.
  • You can purchase a license from the Phoenix Contact website. To do this, contact your Phoenix Contact sales department.
  • You can purchase a pre-activated license on SD card: SD FLASH PLCNEXT MEMORY LIC CFG (item no. 1308064).

Installing a license

After you have purchased the license, there are two ways to install the license:

  • You can install the license online (recommended) on your PLCnext Control or on a LIC SD card.
    • SD FLASH 8GB PLCNEXT MEMORY LIC (item no. 1151112)
    • SD FLASH 32GB PLCNEXT MEMORY LIC (item no. 1151111)
  • If you cannot or do not want to connect your devices to the PLCnext Store via the Internet, you can activate licenses offline.

Uninstalling a license

There is a standard procedure for uninstalling a license.

Removing devices

If you no longer need a device, you can remove it from your device pool.
