Device replacement

There are different scenarios for device replacement: planned device replacement and unplanned device replacement. With a planned device replacement, you have the option of preparing the device for replacement in advance. In the case of an unplanned device replacement, for example, the device is defective and you cannot prepare it for replacement. Below you will find information on device replacement for both scenarios.

Note: The information below relate to apps and licenses in the PLCnext Store context. Please also note all the steps required for the initial commissioning and recommissioning in the user manual of the respective device.

Planned device replacement

  • Create a backup of the previous device you want to replace (optional; the license is not included and not part of the backup file).
  • Uninstall the license on the previous device in the PLCnext Store.
↪ The license is then returned to the license pool.
  • Delete the previous device from your device pool in the PLCnext Store.
  • Add the new device to your device pool in the PLCnext Store.
  • Activate the license from the license pool on the new device.
  • If you have previously created a backup, perform a restore to reinstall the app on the new device.
    OR:
If you have not created a backup, reinstall the app from the PLCnext Store manually on the new device instead.
Note: Please also note all the steps required for the initial commissioning and recommissioning in the user manual of the respective device.

Unplanned device replacement

If your device is defective, please contact the Phoenix Contact support. The support will ask you to send in the device and you may then receive a replacement license.
